Erie plans to retire Fivestar Contractors program

Erie Insurance has filed to withdraw its Fivestar Contractors program in Tennessee beginning July 1, 2027, affecting 932 policies as of September 14. The insurer says it eventually plans to file withdrawals for the program in every state where it operates.

The move is part of Erie’s transition from a legacy system to a web-based platform for agents and customers. Erie says most coverage offered through Fivestar Contractors in Tennessee is already available through ErieSecure Business on the newer platform, making the older program “duplicative, inefficient, and labor intensive to maintain.”

Qualifying policyholders may apply through their agents for replacement coverage under an ErieSecure Business policy written by Erie Insurance Company. However, Erie says some policies may not qualify based on its coverage offerings, underwriting requirements and rating platform.

The insurer plans to nonrenew policies as they expire, continuing until the legacy book is fully withdrawn. Policyholders would receive an initial communication approximately 20 to 30 days before a formal nonrenewal notice, with that notice sent at least 60 days before policy expiration.

The September 28 filing remains under review.
