Erie Insurance Company has filed revised policy endorsements for its Virginia ErieSecure Property, Rental, and Rental Condo programs, updating fire department service charge language and tightening assignment provisions. The form-only filing was submitted on January 6, 2026, with an effective date of June 1, 2026, for both new business and renewals, and carries no rate impact.
Under the revised endorsements, Erie clarifies that it will pay reasonable fire department service charges with limits set at up to $1,000, but no less than $250, including charges from volunteer fire departments that are not fully funded by property taxes. These payments apply in addition to the policy’s amount of insurance.
The filing also revises assignment conditions across Sections I and II to explicitly prohibit transferring the policy, claims, or any interest in a claim without Erie’s prior written consent, except as allowed under the policy’s Survivors’ Coverage provision. Any unauthorized assignment would be deemed void.
The updates apply to the ErieSecure Property, Rental, and Rental Condo change endorsements used in Virginia and are intended to clarify coverage and policyholder obligations rather than adjust pricing.
