Erie To Withdraw Ultrapack Plus BOP Program In Wisconsin

Erie Insurance Exchange has filed to withdraw its Ultrapack Plus businessowners program in Wisconsin, with the change set to take effect on November 1, 2026. The filing covers both new and renewal business and has been submitted as a rate and rule withdrawal.

The move reflects a broader shift away from legacy systems. Erie is transitioning businessowners coverage to a newer web-based platform, where similar risks are already written under its ErieSecure Business policy. The Ultrapack Plus program, by contrast, remains on an older manual system, which the company describes as duplicative and inefficient to maintain.

The withdrawal is not limited to Wisconsin. Erie indicated plans to phase out the Ultrapack Plus line across all states where it operates, aligning its commercial portfolio with the newer platform.

In Wisconsin, the change will impact 593 policies as of mid-March 2026. Affected policyholders will be non-renewed over time, with Erie planning to begin the process on or before November 1, 2026. Customers will receive advance communication ahead of formal non-renewal notices, which will be issued at least 60 days prior to policy expiration.

To reduce disruption, Erie is positioning ErieSecure Business as the primary replacement option. Policyholders may apply for coverage through their agents, though eligibility will depend on underwriting criteria and product fit. Erie acknowledged that not all risks currently written under Ultrapack Plus will qualify under the new structure.

The filing also outlines a coordinated communication plan. Agents and district sales managers will be responsible for guiding policyholders through transition options, while customer service teams will handle inquiries tied to non-renewals.

At its core, the filing highlights a familiar theme: carriers continuing to retire legacy programs as they consolidate onto modern platforms, even when it means temporarily disrupting existing books of business.
