Erie Increases Wisconsin Homeowners Rates

Erie Insurance is increasing homeowners insurance rates in Wisconsin, with new rates effective August 1, 2026, for both new and renewal policies.

The update reflects a 7.5% indicated increase and a 7.9% overall rate impact, affecting about 131,000 policyholders and $147.5 million in written premium. The change is expected to add $11.7 million in premium, with individual rate changes ranging from -7% to +33%.

The rate increase applies to ErieSecure Home and XRC rating plans and was introduced on April 6, 2026, under a use and file framework. The prior rate change was 1.9% in August 2025.

Pricing continues to be based on multiple factors, including base rates by peril, fixed expense factors, territory adjustments, and sewer and drain factors. Rates vary by risk characteristics such as coverage selection, loss settlement type, occupancy, and location.

Territory level pricing uses ZIP code level risk factors across perils like fire, wind, water, and hail, reflecting localized risk differences.

No structural changes were introduced, with the update focused on revising pricing assumptions within the existing homeowners program.
