GEICO has filed for average auto insurance rate increases of 4% for GEICO Indemnity and 1.1% for GEICO Marine in Ohio.
The filing reports indicated rate needs of 22.8% and 33.4%, respectively—well above the increases selected. The changes would add approximately $6.3 million in combined written premium across the two companies.
Individual policy impacts vary. GEICO Indemnity reports changes ranging from a 13.8% decrease to an 18.6% increase, while GEICO Marine reports changes ranging from a 12.6% decrease to a 17.5% increase.
Ohio regulators have requested additional information. In a September 28 objection letter, the Department of Insurance asked GEICO to detail changes to its “Customization Amount Factor” table and provide an exhibit showing how each revision contributes to the overall premium impact for each company.
Submitted September 21 under the state’s file-and-use process, the filing lists implementation dates of September 22 for new business and November 8 for renewals. Its status remains pending industry response, with GEICO’s response due October 13.
