GEICO Shifts California Auto Business To Another Entity

GEICO Indemnity Company filed plans to withdraw its California private passenger auto, motorcycle, and recreational vehicle programs effective October 1, 2026, although the move appears to be part of an internal entity restructuring rather than a market exit. According to the filing, all California policies previously written through GEICO Indemnity were transferred to GEICO Protection Insurance Company, leaving no in-force policies or premium in the withdrawing entity.

The filing memorandum states that “GEICO will continue to write all lines of business in GEICO Protection Insurance Company (GP)” and that the withdrawal “affects No In-Force Policies.”

GEICO submitted the filing to the California Department of Insurance on May 22, 2026, requesting approval for the entity-level withdrawal effective October 1, 2026.
