GEICO Cuts Florida Auto Rates

GEICO has filed two additional auto insurance rate decreases in Florida, which the insurer says will lower premiums for more than 1.3 million customers.

The Berkshire Hathaway-owned insurer said it has now reduced Florida auto rates three times over the past year. Over the past two years, the company estimates that multiple rate decreases have reduced annual premiums for Florida drivers by more than $500 million, including an April 2026 reduction affecting more than 700,000 customers.

GEICO, Florida’s second-largest auto insurer, attributed the improving environment in part to legal system reforms that have created a more predictable underwriting market, while noting continued pressure from severe weather, accident severity, and inflation.

“GEICO is pleased to pass these savings on to our customers through additional rate decreases. Florida’s insurance market continues to show sustained improvement, and we’re committed to making sure our customers feel that improvement directly in what they pay.” – Yang Yu, GEICO’s chief insurance product officer.

GEICO also continues to expand its presence in the state. The company employs approximately 4,400 people in Florida and opened a new Tampa office this year.
