Trisura Raises Rates On Odie Pet Program In North Carolina

Trisura Insurance Company is updating the pet health insurance program it underwrites for Odie Pet Insurance in North Carolina, introducing a rate increase and revised underwriting guidelines.

The company submitted the filing on April 6, 2026. It includes an overall indicated rate change of 56.4% and a selected increase of 47.3%. The update affects 1,126 policyholders and about $506,817 in written premium, with a requested effective date of May 1, 2026.

The program structure remains largely unchanged. Coverage continues to include accident and illness plans, along with injury-only options, for dogs and cats over seven weeks old. Policyholders can choose deductibles from $50 to $1,000, coinsurance levels between 10% and 30%, and annual limits up to $40,000. In addition, the program still offers optional add-ons such as exam fees, prescriptions, and rehabilitative care.

At the same time, the flat-rate injury-only plan remains in place, priced at $108 annually for dogs and $72 for cats, with fixed terms and no discounts.

Pricing continues to rely on a multi-factor model that incorporates geography, breed, age, deductible, and coverage selections. It also reflects an assumed 11% annual trend in veterinary costs. Discounts remain capped at 12%.
