HiRoad Files Connecticut Sharing Economy Commercial Auto Program

HiRoad, part of State Farm, submitted a commercial auto filing in Connecticut for a new sharing economy insurance program targeting business-to-business risks. The filing, submitted on May 29, 2026, includes underwriting guidelines for applicants in the state and states that all policies will require customers to reapply for coverage each term rather than renew automatically.

According to the underwriting guidelines, applicants for the sharing economy program will be evaluated based on factors including historical mileage, loss ratios and claim counts, prior carrier tenure, business tenure, and business type. The filing also states that underwriting decisions will not be based on factors prohibited under Connecticut law, including race, religion, nationality, marital status, or prior participation in residual insurance markets.

The filing notes that the program is a new commercial auto product in Connecticut and that all policies will be placed into a single program.

As background, HiRoad does not currently offer car insurance in the state.

Separately, HiRoad also submitted a commercial auto filing in Georgia that includes policy forms and endorsements for delivery operations, additional insured coverage, and claim deductible provisions, suggesting a broader rollout of its sharing economy commercial auto program.
