Lemonade Introduces Autonomous Driving Rating in Tennessee

Lemonade has filed updates to its personal auto insurance program in Tennessee, introducing a revised policy declaration page, a new mileage-based billing endorsement, and rating components designed for both pay-per-mile and autonomous vehicle usage. The filing was submitted on June 3, 2026, and is scheduled to take effect for new business on August 3, 2026.

The filing is rate-neutral and does not seek a premium increase. Lemonade reported approximately $5.3 million in written premium associated with the program and indicated that no policyholders would be affected by a rate change.

Under the updated structure, customers in the pay-per-mile program will pay a fixed base premium alongside separate per-mile charges for manually driven miles and, where applicable, autonomous miles. The company added a Mileage Based Billing Endorsement detailing how mileage data will be collected through telematics devices, mobile applications, or other approved methods. The filing also introduces new rating rules for autonomous mileage tiers, vehicle telematics groups, and mileage bands.

The revised declarations page includes a breakdown of fixed monthly charges, per-mile pricing, discounts, fees, and coverage information. For vehicles capable of autonomous driving, policyholders may see separate rates for miles driven by the vehicle itself. The filing caps billable mileage at 250 miles per day per vehicle and establishes procedures for handling missing mileage data through assumed-mile charges.
