RiverSource Life submitted a filing in Vermont to introduce a new “FutureCare Conversion Option” rider that allows certain term life policyholders to add chronic illness or long term care acceleration benefits when converting to permanent life insurance, without evidence of insurability.
The optional rider works with RiverSource term life policies and gives policyholders the ability to add an accelerated benefit rider for chronic illness, long term care services, or similar qualifying conditions at the time of conversion to a permanent policy. The filing notes that the rider itself does not provide long term care benefits on the term policy, but instead preserves the option to add those benefits later.
The rider is available for insureds ages 20 to 59 on 10, 15, and 20 year term products, with lower age limits for certain 30 year term policies. The FutureCare conversion amount ranges from $50,000 to $2.5 million and requires an additional premium.
The filing also includes new application and amendment forms asking applicants about Medicaid coverage, prior long term care insurance denials, assistance with activities of daily living, use of medical equipment, nursing home care, and chronic health conditions.
RiverSource said it plans to implement the forms in August 2026.
