State Farm Seeks 9.5% Connecticut Homeowners Rate Increase

State Farm submitted a Connecticut homeowners filing requesting a 9.5% rate increase for its independent homeowners program, affecting about 150,043 policyholders and $238.8 million in written premium. The filing has a requested effective date of October 1, 2026, for new business and November 15, 2026, for renewals.

The filing introduces several coverage and rating changes across homeowners, renters, and condominium unitowners policies. New coverages include bed bugs coverage with a $1,000 limit, a $500 first aid expense limit, and data breach coverage under cyber event, identity restoration, and fraud loss coverage. State Farm also revised rates and factors, updated location rating and deductible adjustments, introduced optional reduced personal property limits, and added a premium adjustment for 3-tab roofs.

The filing expands hurricane and wind mitigation incentives tied to IBHS Fortified designations, with some hurricane premium discounts reaching as high as 64% for renters and 62% for condominium unitowners. The filing also updates year built adjustments and hurricane deductible options for coastal properties.

According to the filing, State Farm’s indicated rate need was 25.5%, but the insurer requested a lower 9.5% overall rate impact. Individual policyholder impacts range from decreases of 24.5% to increases of 40.3%.
