State Farm Updates Classic+ Underwriting in Connecticut

State Farm Classic Insurance Company is introducing updated underwriting guidelines for its Classic+ auto program in Connecticut, with changes applying to both new and renewal business starting May 23, 2026.

The program continues to target collector vehicles but tightens and clarifies eligibility. Vehicles must be maintained for collector use, stored securely, and not used for daily transportation, while drivers are expected to have at least ten years of experience. High performance vehicles are defined as those with 650 horsepower or more, and usage remains limited, with mileage caps such as 7,500 miles annually for standard vehicles and lower thresholds for exotic and motorcycle risks.

The update also refines what is no longer acceptable. Daily use vehicles, heavily modified cars, vehicles used for commercial purposes, and risks with poor driving histories remain excluded. Storage requirements are emphasized, with unsecured locations like street parking disallowed and stricter rules for high value collections, including alarm systems, sprinkler requirements, and geographic restrictions tied to flood, wildfire, and coastal exposure.

Notably, the revision removes some prior flexibility. Motorcycles must now be at least 25 years old, references to certain endorsements were eliminated, and liability-only structures tied to separate physical damage coverage are no longer supported.

Overall, the changes reinforce the program’s positioning around well-maintained collector vehicles with controlled usage and strong risk selection, while tightening edges around high performance, storage, and coverage structure.
