HDI Exits Lawyers Professional Liability Program

HDI Global Insurance Company is shutting down its lawyers professional liability program, moving to nonrenew all policies tied to the offering in California and across other states.

The filing shows the program will be fully discontinued, with nonrenewals starting for policies expiring June 21, 2026, and continuing until the book is fully run off. The company will keep servicing claims on existing and expired policies through completion, but will not write new business under the program.

The decision follows the termination of a program administrator agreement with First Indemnity Insurance Agency, which had been distributing the product. The termination was not for cause, but effectively removes the infrastructure supporting the program.

The book itself is small. The filing points to roughly 120 policies in force and about $618K in written premium, representing less than 1% market share.

HDI also commits not to re-enter the segment for at least three years, signaling a clean exit rather than a temporary pause.
