GAINSCO Files Second Double-Digit Auto Rate Cut in New Mexico

MGA Insurance Company, part of GAINSCO, has filed another significant rate decrease for its personal auto business in New Mexico, marking the second double-digit cut in less than a year.

The filing, submitted on January 21, 2026, applies to the company’s NM Semi-Annual Private Passenger Auto Program and impacts both new and renewal business. New policies are affected starting January 23, 2026, with renewals following on May 2, 2026.

MGA is seeking an overall rate decrease of -11.2%, translating to an estimated $1.2 million reduction in written premium across 7,748 policyholders. Total program written premium before the change is reported at $10.8 million. The move follows a prior -10.6% rate decrease that took effect on June 20, 2025.

Strategically, the filing introduces a Generalized Linear Model (GLM) for private passenger auto rating, signaling a more data-driven approach to pricing.
