Metromile has filed a set of form updates for its Maryland Homeowners By-Peril program, introducing new coverage for hidden water damage while withdrawing several specialty endorsements tied to green construction, lead liability, and trust owned properties.
The filing, submitted in late December, applies to new business written on or after June 23, 2026. It is a form only update, with a corresponding rate and rule filing currently under separate regulatory review.
The most notable addition is a new Hidden Water Damage Coverage endorsement. The form provides limited coverage for damage caused by constant or repeated seepage or leakage of water or steam from plumbing systems, HVAC systems, sprinklers, or household appliances, as long as the damage is concealed within walls, floors, or ceilings. Coverage includes tear out costs necessary to access and repair the source of the leak, but excludes damage where the insured knew or should have known about the issue, visible long term seepage, or damage to the failed system itself.
Metromile also revised its Refrigerated Property Coverage, clarifying coverage for food spoilage resulting from power outages or mechanical failure of refrigeration units. The updated form specifies that no deductible applies and confirms that losses tied to external power failure are covered, provided the interruption was beyond the insured’s control.
In addition, the company updated its Maryland Home Day Care Coverage endorsement, refining how property, liability, and medical payments coverage apply to in home child care operations. The revised language expands liability protections to include personal injury claims, while maintaining exclusions for high risk activities and employee related injuries.
At the same time, Metromile formally withdrew three endorsements from the Maryland program: Green Home Coverage, Maryland Lead Liability Coverage, and Trust Coverage. The removals streamline the product by eliminating optional coverages tied to environmentally certified repairs, statutory lead liability obligations for rental properties, and trust owned dwellings.
