Lemonade’s Michigan Pet Book Tops 18,000 Policies

Lemonade submitted revisions to its Michigan pet insurance program, with changes proposed for new business effective August 30, 2026, and renewals effective September 29, 2026. The filing is revenue neutral despite a 14.8% indicated rate change and affects 18,512 policyholders representing $10.8 million in written premium.

Among the changes, Lemonade is updating its rating manual, introducing a new annual base rate of $270.24, revising territorial, breed, and other rating factors, and refreshing its partner discount program. The company will continue offering affinity group discounts of up to 15%, strategic partner discounts of up to 20%, as well as bundle, multi-pet, and annual payment discounts. The filing also updates the list of eligible affinity and strategic partners, including companies such as ADP, Walmart, UKG, PerkSpot, Rover Pet Insurance Services, and Gusto Insurance Services.

Bottom Line: Michigan has been one of Lemonade’s stronger pet insurance growth markets. Approved to write business in the state on March 15, 2020, the company grew from 1,074 policies and about $333,000 in written premium by February 2021 to 3,360 policies and $1.1 million by May 2022, and 5,042 policies generating $2.3 million by late 2023. As of January 21, 2026, Lemonade reported 9,899 Michigan pet insurance policies and $5.28 million in written premium, highlighting steady expansion.
