Lemonade is updating its underwriting guidelines for renters insurance in Florida, easing certain eligibility requirements.
Under the revised guidelines, applicants may have up to one paid theft loss exceeding $500 and one paid loss of any type exceeding $1,000 during the previous five years. Both thresholds are measured after application of the deductible.
Lemonade is also removing a requirement that homes be protected by smoke detectors near kitchens and sleeping areas.
The filing continues to exclude mobile and manufactured homes, with Lemonade stating that the revised language only clarifies its existing underwriting standard.
The changes are scheduled to take effect on August 4, 2026, for new business and December 4, 2026, for renewals.
