Metromile Insurance has filed to introduce a new pet insurance program in Florida, marking a shift in how Lemonade’s pet business will be written in the state. Under the new arrangement, existing Florida pet policies issued by Lemonade will continue to renew on their current terms, but all new pet insurance business in the state will be written by Metromile using a new rating plan and updated policy forms.
The new program will offer accident and illness coverage for cats and dogs, with optional add-ons including preventative care, visit fees, physical therapy, behavioral conditions, dental care, and end-of-life benefits. Policyholders will be able to choose annual limits ranging from $5,000 to unlimited coverage, deductibles from $0 to $2,000, and reimbursement levels between 50% and 100%.
The filing also includes a 14-day waiting period for illnesses and a 30-day waiting period for orthopedic conditions that are not caused by an accident, though waiting periods may be waived following a veterinary examination and approval by the insurer.
Metromile said the new program uses policy forms similar to those previously approved for Lemonade Insurance Company and reflects its commitment to offering “modern, customizable coverage for pet owners” in Florida.
