Lemonade submitted a Maryland pet insurance rate and rule filing requesting an overall 14.7% rate increase affecting 11,436 policyholders and approximately $9.4 million in written premium.
The filing, submitted May 14, 2026, includes updated rating factors and manuals for dog and cat breeds, pet age, and ZIP code modifiers. Lemonade said the filing reflects a 20.3% indicated rate need, with individual impacts ranging from 0% to 33.3%. The proposed changes would take effect Dec. 15, 2026, for renewals.
Maryland appears to be one of Lemonade’s top 10 pet insurance states.
Bottom Line: Lemonade’s Maryland pet insurance book grew from 9,154 policyholders in the October 2025 filing to 11,436 policyholders in the May 2026 filing, an increase of 2,282 policyholders. That works out to roughly 310 to 315 new policyholders per month over the ~7.3 month period.
