MAPFRE Reduces California Auto Rates

MAPFRE Insurance submitted a private passenger auto class plan update in California with an effective date of October 15, 2026 for both new and renewal business.

The filing reflects a slight overall rate decrease of about 2%, compared to an indicated need of +1.2%. The change would reduce written premium by approximately $584,000 across 6,279 policyholders, based on a program size of roughly $29.2 million in premium.

The update centers on revisions to the company’s rating structure and class plan, supported by new actuarial exhibits and modeling documentation. MAPFRE is also maintaining its “Protection Auto” program framework, which incorporates detailed segmentation variables across liability and physical damage coverages.

MAPFRE operates within MAPFRE’s U.S. business and works with Arity on data and telematics capabilities, reflecting broader industry adoption of data-driven pricing.
