Amanda Crawford Named Texas Insurance Commissioner

Amanda Crawford became insurance commissioner of Texas on February 3. In the role, she leads the Texas Department of Insurance, which oversees the state’s $293.9 billion insurance market, regulates 3,447 companies, and supervises more than 983,000 agents and adjusters.

Crawford previously served as executive director of the Texas Department of Information Resources and as the state’s chief information officer. She spent more than two decades in public service, including roles at the Texas Attorney General’s Office where she was general counsel and deputy attorney general for administration.

Crawford replaces Cassie Brown, who retired on February 2 after four years as insurance commissioner and more than 20 years in public service. Brown had held the position since 2021.
