Trupanion’s Lower-Cost Pet Product Gains State Approvals

Trupanion’s planned lower-cost pet insurance product is beginning to clear regulatory review ahead of its proposed November launch.

The new program has received approval in Alabama, while regulators in Indiana, Missouri, New Mexico and Wisconsin have accepted or reviewed related filings. Trupanion previously filed the product in Rhode Island, Virginia and Nevada.

The program is scheduled to launch on November 10, 2026. It will be underwritten by ZPIC Insurance Company and sold and administered by Trupanion Managers USA.

As previously reported, the product departs from Trupanion’s flagship plan by offering annual deductibles, adjustable coinsurance and annual coverage limits. It will retain VetDirect Pay and support distribution through partners, affinity groups, employers and other organizations.

In Alabama, the forms were submitted and approved on August 20. Indiana’s forms were filed on August 4, Missouri completed its review the same day, and the New Mexico and Wisconsin filings were accepted under their respective filing processes.

Bottom Line: Trupanion is moving from a planned launch to regulatory clearance across a growing number of states.
