Trupanion has filed for a 28.9% overall rate increase for its pet insurance program in Rhode Island, with the changes requested to take effect on January 22, 2027, according to a filing submitted by American Pet Insurance Company and ZPIC Insurance Company.
The filing states that the proposed increase is based on claims experience and includes revisions to base rates, geographic factors, breed factors, age factors, and gender factors.
The proposed changes would affect 5,182 policyholders, representing approximately $5.7 million in written premium. Individual policy impacts would range from 12.8% to 40.7%.
The updated underwriting manual also retains Trupanion’s monthly-renewing pet insurance product for dogs and cats under age 14, with deductible options ranging from $0 to $2,500 and coinsurance options between 50% and 100%, along with optional coverages and partner discounts, including a State Farm discount for eligible customers.
