American Pet Insurance Company, Trupanion’s underwriter, filed a 9.8% increase on its Trupanion for Chewy Health program in Michigan, effective November 1, 2026 for new and renewal business.
It’s the second increase in twelve months. The last revision, +18.7%, took effect November 1, 2025 — a compounded ~30% across two consecutive Novembers on a program that’s barely two years in market.
The book is small but climbing. The filing lists 628 policyholders and $330,258 in written premium, up from 504 policies and $232,397 as of July 15, 2025 — roughly +25% policies and +42% premium in about a year. Average premium per policy rose ~14% to $526, the rate increases feeding through faster than the customer count.
Michigan alone can’t yet carry the pricing case. Credibility on the two coverages runs 11% and 27%, so the carrier leans on Trupanion’s broader experience as the complement — the Chewy sample sets direction, the parent book does the arguing.
