American Pet Insurance Company is seeking approval for a 32.5% rate increase for its Trupanion for Chewy Health program in Rhode Island.

The filing affects 325 policyholders and would generate an additional $55,381 in written premium on a current book of $170,359. Individual policy changes would range from 16.1% to 51.1%.

The insurer is revising base rates and geographic, breed, age and gender factors based on experience. Its previous rate revision, an 18.2% increase, took effect in November 2025.

Trupanion for Chewy Health offers accident-only, accident and illness, and wellness plans. Premiums do not increase because a pet ages or based on its individual claims history.

American Pet submitted the filing on September 3 and is requesting a December 1, 2026, effective date for new and renewal business.
