Trupanion is raising rates for its Chewy pet insurance program in Alabama.

American Pet Insurance Company received approval for an 11.3% overall rate increase for Trupanion for Chewy Health, effective November 1, 2026, for both new and renewal business. The company is revising base rates as well as geographic, breed, age and gender factors based on experience.

The filing also provides a detailed look at the product. Trupanion for Chewy Health offers Complete Accident & Illness, Essential Accident & Illness and Accident Only plans, with reimbursement levels ranging from 50% to 100%, deductibles ranging from $0 to $5,000, and annual limits ranging from $1,000 to $100,000 or unlimited coverage.

The program also includes wellness options. A Wellness Plan costs $20 per month, while a Comprehensive Wellness Plan costs $33 per month. Multi-pet and employee discounts are 10%.

Notably, the rating structure separates prescription costs depending on where medications are purchased. For the Complete Accident & Illness plan, for example, the monthly prescription base rate is $13.23 when purchased through Chewy compared with $1.27 when purchased elsewhere. The Essential plan uses rates of $12.72 and $1.25, respectively.

Premiums do not increase as an enrolled pet ages or based on the individual pet’s claims experience.

The filing does not disclose the number of Trupanion for Chewy Health policies currently in force in Alabama.
