On April 24, 2025, State Farm Fire and Casualty Company filed updates in Virginia revising its homeowners, condo unitowners, and renters policies. The filing (SERFF Tracking Number SFMA-134503217) introduces new endorsements and updates cyber event coverage.
The new mandatory endorsements (HO-2376 and HO-2377) extend personal property and liability coverage to temporary residences when an insured’s new home is under construction, replacing a prior construction endorsement (HO-2413) that is being discontinued. The update also revises language around reporting increases in replacement cost.
Separately, State Farm replaced its Cyber Event, Identity Restoration, and Fraud Loss Coverage (HO-2609) with a new version (HO-2609.1) that adds data breach coverage and extends cyber attack coverage to connected home devices like smart thermostats and appliances. Data breach benefits include forensic IT review, legal consultation, breach notification services, credit monitoring, and identity restoration case management.
The cyber updates introduce a $15,000 annual limit for cyber attack, extortion, and breach coverage combined, while maintaining a $50,000 limit for identity restoration and fraud loss coverage. A $500 deductible applies to cyber attack, extortion, and breach claims.
The updates are effective October 1, 2025, for new business and December 1, 2025, for renewals.
