Nationwide Excludes Cosmetic Roof Damage

Nationwide is updating its Businessowners insurance program in Tennessee to limit coverage for minor wind or hail damage to roofs and siding.

Starting February 1, 2026, two new exclusions will apply to policies issued by several Nationwide companies, including Nationwide General, Assurance, Affinity, and Insurance Company of Florida. The first exclusion removes coverage for purely cosmetic wind or hail damage to both roofs and siding, defined as superficial damage that doesn’t affect functionality. The second exclusion applies only to metal roofs and follows the same definition. These exclusions will only apply if listed on the policy declarations page. A previous list of exempt states has been removed.

The changes were filed under SERFF Tracking Number NWPP-134486074 and reflect Nationwide’s effort to reduce liability for non-functional exterior damage.
