Nationwide has filed a new optional endorsement in Texas that would allow policyholders to receive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts, including windshield and door glass, when repairing covered vehicles after a loss. The endorsement was submitted to regulators on June 8 and would take effect November 9, 2026, for new business and December 9, 2026, for renewals if approved.
According to the filing, Nationwide’s existing OEM endorsement excludes windshield and door glass. The new version expands coverage to include those components while continuing to prioritize the use of new OEM parts whenever they are reasonably available. If such parts are no longer produced, are otherwise unavailable, or if requested by the insured, the company may instead specify the use of aftermarket parts or reconditioned, refurbished, or salvage OEM parts.
The optional coverage would not apply to custom equipment, tires, fasteners, nuts, bolts, clips, hardware, or similar components. It would also expire at the policy renewal following the point at which the covered vehicle reaches 10 years of age, as determined under the policy’s model-year calculation methodology.
Nationwide said the endorsement is based on a previously approved OEM parts endorsement that will remain available as an optional offering. The company also noted that the new form had already been approved for Colonial County Mutual Insurance Company in Texas under an earlier filing.
