Nationwide filed to stop writing new travel insurance business in Maryland through its Nationwide Specialty Insurance (NSI) channel, effective January 1, 2027. The filing does not change rates, benefits, forms, underwriting standards, or rating methodology for existing policies. Instead, it adds a “no new business” rule to the company’s current travel insurance manual.
Under the proposed rule, no new travel insurance policies or certificates will be issued in Maryland on or after January 1, 2027. The existing manual will continue to apply only to policies issued before that date and will govern the administration of in-force coverage until those policies expire.
The filing is rate-neutral, with a 0% overall rate impact, no written premium change, and no policyholders affected, according to Nationwide. The requested effective date for both new and renewal business is January 1, 2027.
