Nationwide has filed a rate and rule update in Wisconsin eliminating its 75% down payment requirement for new business private passenger auto policies. The change applies to new policies effective March 1, 2026, and has already been filed with and accepted by the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.
The update removes a payment condition that previously required certain new customers to pay most of the policy premium upfront, particularly those without an existing Nationwide homeowners or farm policy, lower-rated bodily injury limits, or multi-vehicle households. Under the revised rules, Nationwide no longer imposes the elevated upfront payment threshold for new business auto policies in the state.
The filing does not include any rate changes and is limited to payment options and policy administration. Existing installment payment fees remain unchanged, including a $3 handling fee for recurring EFT payments and a $7 fee for other installment methods. Late payment and insufficient funds fees also remain in place.
Nationwide submitted the filing on January 14, 2026, and it was filed the same day, signaling immediate regulatory acceptance.
