KnightBrook Insurance Company is officially exiting California’s homeowners insurance market by withdrawing its Goodcover Homeowners program, which was distributed through Goodcover Insurance Solutions.
As of June 19, 2025, 977 policies remain in force. Non-renewals began in July 2023 but were paused following direction from the California Department of Insurance (CDI). A formal withdrawal was filed in May 2024 and finalized on June 25, 2025.
The CDI required KnightBrook to stop renewing policies under this program, refrain from introducing a replacement program for three years, and refer policyholders to alternatives such as the California FAIR Plan and Difference in Conditions (DIC) policies.
The withdrawal follows sustained underwriting losses and a pullback from reinsurers. KnightBrook had also withdrawn a separate rate filing in April. Meanwhile, Goodcover continues to offer renters insurance in California through a new carrier partner, possibly Lyndon Southern Insurance Company.
