Great American is rolling out a new personal renters insurance program that appears designed with property managers, property management software platforms and other affinity partners in mind.
The program is launching in multiple states. Great American’s Alabama filing was approved on August 4, with an effective date of November 1, 2026. The company also filed the product in Washington on August 4, requesting the same November 1 effective date; the Washington filing remains under review.
The program combines personal contents and personal liability coverage, building on two products Great American had previously filed separately. The company said the renters offering brings those components together under a single declarations page and state-specific forms.
The more interesting piece is distribution. Great American’s rules contemplate “custom programs” built around groups of renters sharing common characteristics, including living in properties managed by the same property manager, using the same property management software or purchasing insurance through a particular account. Approved affinity business meeting Great American’s property-management criteria can receive base pricing, while business coming through other channels is subject to a surcharge.
That structure gives Great American a product that can potentially be distributed at the point of lease or through property-management ecosystems rather than relying solely on traditional insurance distribution.
The product is also modular. Personal contents and personal liability can be purchased together or separately, with optional coverages including water backup, refrigerated property, pet damage, animal liability, assisted living care, identity recovery, home systems protection and home cyber protection. The Washington filing, for example, includes separate forms for identity recovery, home systems protection and home cyber protection.
There is also a technology partner behind some of those ancillary coverages. The identity recovery, home systems and cyber forms contain copyrighted material from Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, indicating HSB is providing or supporting those components. The home systems coverage can even provide water sensors or electrical arc-detection devices along with two years of monitoring following certain covered losses.
Bottom Line: Concert Insurance comes to mind.
