American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, part of Assurant, Inc., has filed a comprehensive update to its Condominium Insurance Program in Virginia. The filing, submitted on October 31, 2025, proposes new rates, rules, and forms effective February 1, 2026, for new business and April 1, 2026, for renewals.
The overhaul introduces several new rating variables, including Number of Bathrooms factors, Claim Point surcharges, and Insurance Score Class factors. It also adds new coverage options and countrywide form updates. The filing incorporates LOYALTY CREDIT and PAPERLESS CREDIT incentives as part of its revised rating structure.
The proposed change impacts approximately 6,347 policyholders and $3.25 million in written premium, with a projected premium increase of $562,791. The filing carries an overall rate impact of +17.3%, supported by an indicated need of +20.7%.
While the program refresh modernizes pricing and segmentation, it also presents wide policy-level variability — with maximum individual rate changes reaching +137.6% and minimums as low as -25.1% — underscoring the significant impact of the new rating factors on customer premiums.
