Assurant Plans to Discontinue Choice Dwelling in Maryland

Assurant’s American Security Insurance Company plans to discontinue its Choice Dwelling program in Maryland, according to a filing submitted October 13.

The company says the move will allow it and its affiliates to allocate resources toward a more comprehensive homeowners offering.

“Sunsetting Choice is part of a larger strategic plan to allow ASIC and its affiliated companies to allocate resources toward a more comprehensive homeowners offering that ASIC and its affiliates believe better serves the needs of Maryland customers. Accordingly, ASIC intends to discontinue Choice to allow for focus on the other product.”

American Security plans to begin mailing nonrenewal notices on or after November 15, 2026, providing at least 45 days’ notice before policy expiration. Nonrenewals will follow policies’ natural expiration dates.

The filing does not disclose the number of affected policies or premium volume. It remained listed as submitted to the state as of October 14; a companion rule filing was submitted separately.
