Assurant – via Virginia Surety Company – has introduced a new travel protection program in Florida, offering pre-packaged insurance plans designed to cover financial losses tied to travel disruptions.
The program is structured as a guaranteed issue product, meaning coverage is offered without individual underwriting or application screening. Customers can purchase policies online or through travel retailers and licensed producers, with coverage issued after providing trip and personal details.
The plans are positioned as add-ons to travel purchases and will be available across multiple distribution channels, including airlines, cruise lines, tour operators, hotels, schools, employers, and other organizations with shared travel exposure.
Coverage includes a wide range of optional benefits, such as trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage protection, rental car damage, medical expenses, and evacuation services. Additional upgrades allow for expanded protection tied to activities like sports, academic travel, or pet-related coverage.
Policies include a review period of 10 to 15 days, during which customers can cancel for a full refund if no claims have been made and the trip has not started.
The program is expected to take effect on May 14, 2026.
A similar filing in Arizona shows Assurant relied on Meridian Management Group’s intercompany travel insurance data, covering over 2.5 million lives and approximately $57 million in trip cost exposure.
