Independence American Insurance Company is raising prices on its pet insurance program in New Jersey, pairing a double digit increase with a broad rewrite of how policies are priced.
The filing calls for an overall +18.6% rate increase, impacting 43,329 policyholders and adding about $5.7 million in premium to a $30.8 million book.
The range of outcomes is wide. While the average increase lands near +18.6%, individual policies can move significantly, with increases capped at +25% at renewal and decreases as steep as −52.8% depending on the risk profile.
The program is already at scale, representing roughly 5% of the pet insurance market in the state, making this a meaningful repricing rather than a marginal adjustment.
