Assurant Adds Book Roll Conversion Rate Cap In Georgia

American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, part of Assurant, filed updates to its Specialty Homeowners program in Georgia on December 4, 2025. The changes apply to new business effective February 1, 2026, and to renewals beginning April 1, 2026.

The filing revises the program’s State Exception Pages to introduce a Book Roll Conversion Rate Cap, designed to support the transition of a qualified book of business from another carrier into American Bankers’ homeowners platform. For eligible, claim free policies, the cap limits annual rate increases to 15% until the policy reaches the carrier’s filed rate level.

The rate cap is temporary and can be applied for up to five years. It is not available in Georgia Territories 1 and 2, reflecting geographic constraints within the program.

The change is aimed at smoothing premium impacts for incoming policyholders during carrier transitions rather than altering base rates or underwriting standards. It reflects a retention focused approach to book roll conversions, balancing regulatory compliance with policyholder stability as risks migrate into the American Bankers Specialty Homeowners portfolio.
