AmGUARD Withdraws From Homeowners Market

AmGUARD Insurance Company, part of the Berkshire Hathaway group, is exiting the admitted personal lines market, withdrawing its homeowners and personal umbrella products across several states.

In Kentucky, the company filed to discontinue its homeowners program effective November 2, 2024, with 234 homeowners and one umbrella policy in force as of April 30, 2024. The withdrawal process is expected to conclude by November 2025. To assist affected policyholders, AmGUARD entered into a Replacement Rights agreement with Farmers Insurance Exchange, allowing eligible customers to obtain replacement coverage through participating independent agents.

In Utah, AmGUARD received approval in May 2025 to use a revised Notice of Cancellation or Nonrenewal form for its homeowners and personal umbrella products, effective June 1, 2025.

In Georgia, the company’s Q2 2025 report listed 676 homeowners policies cancelled or nonrenewed, all attributed to withdrawal from the market.

These actions are part of AmGUARD’s broader plan to withdraw from admitted personal lines nationwide while continuing to write commercial business. In April, Kingstone Companies announced that its subsidiary, Kingstone Insurance Company, entered into an agreement to offer replacement policies to selected homeowners in Downstate New York as AmGUARD pivots away from admitted personal lines. The transaction, which encompasses approximately $70 million in written premium, is pending regulatory approval.
