State Farm Seeks Michigan Homeowners Rate Increase

State Farm Fire and Casualty Company has filed a homeowners rate and rule revision in Michigan, proposing an overall 1.8% rate increase for its Homeowners program.

The change affects approximately 722,873 policyholders and is expected to increase written premium by about $14.8 million on a current base of $804 million.

In addition to base rate changes, the filing includes several program updates:

  • Removal of labor depreciation from actual cash value calculations in response to Michigan regulation, increasing expected claim costs.

  • Revised location rating factors based on updated loss experience and predictive data.

  • New roof-related pricing changes.

  • Updated wind/hail deductible structure with a $1,000 minimum and percentage-based options.

  • Increase in the fixed expense constant from $159 to $163.

The filing follows a 17% overall rate change implemented in March 2025.

The filing, submitted February 12, 2026, would take effect June 1, 2026 for new business and August 1, 2026 for renewals.
