Liberty Mutual Seeks Idaho Homeowners Rate Increase Amid Wildfire And Storm Loss Pressure

Liberty Mutual submitted a homeowners rate filing in Idaho requesting an overall 3% increase for Liberty Insurance Corporation and LM Insurance Corporation. The filing impacts around 7,175 policyholders across the two companies and approximately $17.4 million in written premium. New business changes are scheduled to take effect on May 27, 2026, with renewal business following on July 1, 2026.

According to the filing, the insurer’s actuarial indication for the Idaho homeowners program is 5.6%, driven by catastrophe exposure, severe storm losses, wildfire risk, and operating expenses. Liberty Mutual cited a projected total loss and loss adjustment expense ratio of 61%, including a 19.2% provision for tornado, hail, and severe thunderstorm losses and a 6.8% provision for wildfire losses.

The filing replaces dwelling and renters/condominium base rates across Idaho territories. Liberty Insurance Corporation reported a maximum rate increase of 7.1% and minimum increase of 1.1%, while LM Insurance Corporation reported a maximum increase of 5.8% and minimum increase of 2.7%.
