Horace Mann Exits Florida Homeowners Market

Teachers Insurance, part of Horace Mann, is formally withdrawing its Florida homeowners program after confirming that all policies in the state have expired and there are now zero in-force policies remaining.

The withdrawal follows underwriting guidelines issued by Horace Mann stating that new homeowners and renters business in Florida would no longer be written starting February 1, 2025, and that no policies would be renewed on or after March 1, 2025.

The program primarily targeted educators and certain Florida property and casualty agents affiliated with Horace Mann.

Eligibility rules included strict underwriting criteria around roof age, prior claims, property condition, and hurricane-related construction features. The filings also show the carrier maintained Florida-specific homeowners rules, wind mitigation credits, hurricane deductibles, and MGA fees.
