Root is introducing a new Georgia endorsement tied to premium assistance and promotional benefit programs for personal auto policyholders.
Filed on May 7, 2026, the endorsement would allow Root to offer optional programs that may include premium subsidies funded by third parties, along with non insurance benefits such as rewards, memberships, gift cards, coupons, educational offerings, charitable contributions, and other items of value.
Under the filing, third party sponsors could pay all or part of a customer’s premium through what Root calls “Premium Assistance Programs.” If a policyholder’s premium exceeds the sponsored amount, or if policy changes increase the premium, the customer would remain responsible for the difference.
The endorsement also outlines how refunds would be handled if a policy is canceled or modified. Unearned premium funded by a third party sponsor would be returned to that sponsor, while any premium paid directly by the policyholder would be refunded according to the policy’s cancellation provisions.
Root noted that participation in any benefit program would be optional and that the programs do not constitute insurance coverage or modify policy obligations under Georgia law except where specifically stated.
The filing is pending approval.
