Root Insurance received approval in Arkansas for a new endorsement that allows third parties to pay part of a customer’s auto insurance premium through “Premium Assistance Programs.” The filing also introduces broader “Promotional Benefit Programs” that can include rewards, memberships, gift cards, coupons, educational offerings, and other non insurance benefits.
According to the endorsement, participating third party sponsors may cover all or part of a policyholder’s premium, subject to program caps or restrictions. If a policy is canceled or modified, any unused premium paid by the sponsor is returned to the sponsor rather than the insured.
Root told Arkansas regulators it is “currently working with partners” tied to these premium assistance programs and clarified that the arrangement does not reduce the actual premium charged. Instead, the premium is split between the customer and a participating partner.
The company also disclosed that similar filings had already been approved in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
The filing was submitted on May 8, 2026 and approved on May 20, 2026 on an “on approval” effective basis.
