Root Insurance Company has received New Mexico approval for an auto insurance endorsement allowing third parties to pay all or part of eligible customers’ premiums, supporting its insurance partnership with Hyundai.

In its filing, Root said an unnamed “top 5 vehicle manufacturer” requested its assistance in bringing the program to New Mexico. Root identified Hyundai as its manufacturer partner in its earnings commentary.

Hyundai’s existing Secure+ program, powered by Root, offers eligible Arizona customers six months of complimentary auto insurance when they finance or lease a new Hyundai through Hyundai Motor Finance at participating dealerships. Customers can renew with Root at their own expense after the promotional period.

The New Mexico endorsement was approved November 4 and takes effect January 5, 2027, for new business. The filing does not specify the manufacturer’s contribution or confirm that New Mexico customers will receive the same six-month offer.

Root says policies will be issued at fully filed and approved rates using standard underwriting guidelines. Premium assistance is funded by a third party rather than provided through an insurance discount or rebate.

Program terms may include payment caps, with customers responsible for amounts exceeding the assistance. Any unused sponsor-paid premium is returned to the sponsor if a policy is canceled or its premium reduced.

Root said the form has already been approved in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
