Shelter Insurance is discontinuing its for-hire trucking business in Mississippi, ending new business and non-renewing existing Truckmen policies as part of a broader operational transformation initiative tied to its migration to Guidewire InsuranceSuite.

According to a filing submitted on May 5, 2026, the carrier will stop writing new Truckmen policies effective August 1, 2026, and begin non-renewing existing policies starting November 1, 2026. The filing was approved the same day.

Shelter said the decision was driven by the investment required to migrate the Truckmen business into Guidewire relative to the “size/performance” of the book. The company noted that it has “no immediate intentions of re-entering this market.”

The withdrawal affects 958 active Truckmen policies across 69 Shelter agencies in Mississippi. The company said non-trucking commercial auto business will not be impacted and it will continue writing coverage for businesses transporting their own goods.

Shelter also stated that it is working with carriers connected to its internal brokerage operation to help transition affected insureds to replacement coverage while allowing them to continue working with their Shelter agents.

Policyholders will receive at least 45 days’ notice before expiration, and any associated federal or state motor carrier filings tied to the policies will terminate alongside the non-renewals.
