The Hartford is updating its Commercial Lines Total Account Billing System (TABS) to allow insureds to enroll in automatic recurring payments using a designated credit or debit card on the same day each month selected by the customer, according to a Kansas filing submitted on May 4, 2026.
The billing platform, originally implemented in 1984 and redesigned in 2000, supports a range of commercial insurance products including commercial property, auto, general liability, cyber, inland marine, professional liability, and umbrella coverage. The filing applies across multiple Hartford insurers, including Hartford Casualty Insurance Company, Sentinel Insurance Company, Trumbull Insurance Company, and Hartford Fire Insurance Company.
Under the updated system, customers can choose from several payment structures, including full pay, two-pay, three-pay, four-pay, and monthly installment plans. Existing payment methods already include mailed checks, bank account withdrawals, and one-time credit card payments. The new change adds recurring credit and debit card billing functionality.
The filing also outlines billing and cancellation procedures, including installment fees, late payment fees, cancellation timelines, refund handling, and endorsement processing. Policies can be billed individually or grouped under a single account if they share a common payer.
Kansas regulators initially disapproved the filing and requested additional clarification, including whether the proposed billing changes would have any rate or coverage impact and which affiliated Hartford entities are authorized to write certain lines of business in the state.
