The Hartford is seeking an overall 1% rate decrease for its Florida private passenger auto business, but the filing points to more significant changes beneath the headline number.
The filing, submitted by Hartford Fire Insurance Company and Sentinel Insurance Company, proposes increases and decreases across individual coverages. The bodily injury base rate would rise about 11%, from $610.96 to $679.67, while the comprehensive base rate would fall about 22%, from $140.08 to $109.20.
Roadside assistance pricing would also decline, with the base rate moving from $25 to $8.24.
The Hartford is also adjusting the pricing relationship between its agency and direct channels. The agency channel factor would increase from 0.864 to 0.880, slightly reducing the discount applied to policies sold through agents. The direct channel factor remains unchanged at 1.000.
The filing adds a new $250,000 property damage liability limit, priced at a factor of 1.055. The higher limit expands the coverage options available to customers seeking more liability protection.
Other changes include updates to financial responsibility tiers, clean-driving and at-fault accident factors, the mature driver discount, minimum rating factors, and ZIP code-based territory factors.
The filing says the revisions also reflect changes in Florida law.
The proposed changes would take effect November 19, 2026, for new business and January 18, 2027, for renewals.
The strongest angle is that the overall decrease is small, but The Hartford is materially redistributing price across coverages and channels.
Bottom Line: The Hartford narrowed the pricing gap between agency and direct business.
