Chubb has filed to introduce a new by-peril rating plan for its Platinum homeowners business in Texas.
The plan establishes separate base rates for 12 perils: wildfire, hurricane, fire, non-weather water, weather-related water, water backup, wind and hail, other, lightning, theft, liability, and sinkhole/mine subsidence. It applies to dwelling, condominium, and tenant policies.
Chubb developed many of the rating factors using loss-cost generalized linear models, while hurricane, wildfire, and earthquake factors were largely informed by RMS catastrophe models. Pricing will also consider features such as roof characteristics, water-leak detection, backup generators, wildfire mitigation, distance from water, claims history, and risk tier.
The filing does not change the coverage provided, except that customers will have the option to purchase combined sinkhole and mine-subsidence coverage.
Chubb currently writes new Platinum homeowners business through Chubb Lloyds Insurance Company of Texas. Under the new plan, new business will instead be written through Executive Risk Indemnity and Chubb National Insurance Company.
The filing reports no rate impact because it represents new company submissions. Chubb plans to implement the program for new and renewal business on April 27, 2027.
